Smoke Detectors

Countryside offers a variety of smoke detectors, which have the capabilities of being monitored and integrated easily into most new or existing systems. The same system that guards your home's security can also guard your home against fire. Please click on a link below to veiw some of the devices that we carry.

Wired Smoke Detectors

Wireless Smoke Detectors

Countryside has a large stock of alarm products at our Central Station.
If you need a product, then we will be happy to provide it for you
as quickly as possible.

How the Detectors Work:

We are here to help keep you and yor prize posessions protected
whether you are home or away.

Comparing the Different Types of Fire Detectors:

You may already have a battery-operated or
hard-wired 120VAC smoke detector in your home,
but how do they compare to a monitored system?

Battery Operated Detectors:
There are a few major problems with battery operated detectors.

  1. First, they are rarely connected to other detectors, remote warning devices, or a central monitoring station. If they are located outside a bedroom, they may not be heard by a sound sleeper, especially if the bedroom door is closed or just partially open. Also, depending on where the detectors are located at the residence, the occupants may not hear the alarm sounding at all.
  2. A second problem with battery operated detectors is that homeowners frequently fail to replace the batteries as often as needed; therefore the detectors will not work! Too many fire deaths occur in homes where detectors fail to function because their batteries are dead, disconnected, or removed.
  3. Household smoke detectors are required to be replaced every 10 years. CO detectors need to be replaced every 5 years.
  4. In mid 2009 Vermont is expected to enact new fire rules requiring 3 year sensitivity tests of all smoke detectors. Household smoke detectors are to be tested by the manufacturer and commercial smoke detectors are done by the panel.

AC Powered Detectors:

Many AC powered detectors are not connected to other detectors or remote warning devices. Even those that are connected to other devices can only provide a local warning of fire. If no one is home, a fire can develop without anyone taking action to protect valuable property.

Monitored Detectors:
When located on all levels of a residence and in all bedrooms, monitored detectors provide the best kind of early warning fire protection. If monitored detectors sense a fire developing, they signal an alarm control which activates all evacuation horns throughout a residence and sends a fire alarm signal to our central station which can notify the fire department. As part of a home security system, a monitored detector has both an AC primary power supply and a rechargeable back up battery. Monitored detectors provide fire protection when you are home and away.
